There are posts about the challenge of turning off the Optimum Wi-Fi signal but it’s been overcome and that information can be found in reddit and other sites. If you want to use the Optimum modem but use your own Wi-Fi, you may need to call Tech Support to have Optimum remotely set their router into Bridge mode so you can hook up your own Wi-Fi router. Depending on what you pay for your own equipment, and how long you keep it, you can potentially save money by owning it and not leasing it monthly. Logging into your own modem is handy if you want to troubleshoot, make changes to your network, upgrade the speeds you get from your provider, prevent throttling, or to change settings. for equipment: $10 for the modem/router and $3.50 for a “network maintenance fee.” If you want to BYO, bring your own modem/router, you can do that and some people recommend it for a beefier signal and the ability to log into your own router, which you cannot do with Optimum-provided equipment. If you choose to use Optimums equipment, and this is not a requirement, you will be leasing it, and you will pay $13.50/mo. No data caps: Optimum does not have data caps on any internet plans so you can do as many video calls as you need without worrying about getting throttled. Optimum will not charge an installation fee if you self-install the equipment but if you don’t DIY you will pay a fee of $59 for standard or $99 for internet and TV bundles. All speeds below are download speeds and quoted as “up to” the maximum available with this connection. The following internet plans are fiber connection plans and may not be available in your area. The following internet plans are cable connection plans. Optimum has many plan types of bundles so explore them directly with Optimum. When you bundle TV and internet you can potentially get a decent price for cable TV. Overall, when you see a rate, add another $20 to that mentally for equipment fees and taxes. Otherwise in 2 years you may have to cut other monthly auto-draft subscriptions to cover your suddenly huge internet fee. Be sure to ask what your rate will be in month 25 so you can budget for it now. Optimum does not have contracts but what they do have are big price hikes after your first 24 months as a customer. Depending on the plan and connection type your upload speeds would be up to 20 Mbps all the way up to 5,000 Mbps. The cable plans have maximum download speeds of 300 Mbps to 940 Mbps, which is great, and the fiber plans have maximum download speeds of 300 Mbps up to 5,000 Mbps which is incredibly fast and can handle just about anything you need to do online. Optimum internet connections are either cable or fiber depending on where you live. As of 2022 Suddenlink has become part of Optimum as with that transition Optimum reaches past the Northeast to states in the South and to the West Coast. Altice Optimum offers internet, TV, mobile phone and home phone services in several states including Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia.
